Assembly and anchoring
The MTC is a prefabricated, modular structure that comes as a kit, with clear and easy-to-follow assembly instructions. You can manage the assembly of the MTC or do it yourself. The foundation is straightforward too. The ingenious floor structure means the anchor points only need to be where the footplates rest on the ground, offering a range of options all around the world. We have illustrated some examples of the foundation options below.
The MTC secured to the ground with anchor pins, ground screws, Stelcon slabs and cast concrete.
Foundation with ground screws
Anchor pins, anchoring pins or tent pins are commonly used to anchor tents and temporary structures for festivals and during events. These pins are a useful way of anchoring a Buitink Technology MTC intended for temporary, seasonal or semi-permanent use.
The images above show a foundation made from plates and anchor pins.
The advantage of a foundation using anchor pins is that it can be assembled and removed quickly and easily. However, the surface below must be suitable. An anchor pin is usually 100cm long and 2.5cm in diameter and is driven 90cm into the ground.
We can calculate and work out the anchoring plan needed to suit your specific requirements, and we can supply the anchor plates and pins.
Foundation with ground screws
If the Buitink Technology MTC is intended for temporary, semi-permanent or even permanent use, it can be anchored with ground screws. These anchors are screwed into the ground using tools or machinery and the MTC’s base plates are then bolted onto them using splice plates.
The above images show a foundation using ground screws
The advantage of a foundation using ground screws is that this is an extremely clean method. There is no need to dig a big hole or bring in concrete.
The drawback is that it offers less precision and there is a risk of encountering obstacles in the ground that mean the ground screws have to be driven in elsewhere.
Ground screws can be purchased from suppliers such as Krinner. The following video shows how a foundation using ground screws is assembled:
Stelcon slab foundations
If the MTC is intended for temporary or semi-permanent use, you can use Stelcon slabs (or precast concrete slabs) as a foundation, for example if the ground beneath the structure is too hard or unsuitable for anchor pins or ground screws. The MTC base plates will then be mounted onto screw studs/concrete anchors that are drilled and/or glued into the Stelcon slabs.
The above images show a foundation of Stelcon slabs.
Concrete foundations
If the Modular Textile Canopy is intended for permanent use, it can be erected on a concrete foundation. These blocks can be made from precast concrete, but it will often be easier to pour concrete on site. Buitink Technology can calculate the foundation that you need and supply an implementation plan. We can also supply mesh houses with screw studs or anchor hooks and mounting plates, which can be placed in the poured concrete.
