Applications flexible dam
The following applications of the flexible water dam are covered on this page:
- Flood protection
- Flexible cofferdam
- Creation of fire water reservoir
- Collection of polluted water
Flood protection
One of the main functions of Buitink Technology's flexible water dam is to protect cities, towns, industrial sites, businesses and individuals from flooding and flooding.
As flood protection, Buitink Technology's flexible water barrier has several key advantages over alternative, competing systems.
- Very quick installation and commissioning
A flexible weir and emergency dam from Buitink Technology is very quick and easy to install. Installation can be done manually and no equipment is required. No power is needed either. Furthermore, the system can be used on any surface: grass, stones, hills, slopes, asphalt, etc.
- Unrivalled performance
The system anchors itself with the (flood) water. The system is linkable and endlessly extendable in length. Vehicles can drive over the system even when it is in use and water is in the system.
- Low operating costs
The system is lightweight and can be stored very compactly. The system is maintenance-free. The flexible water barrier can be easily repaired in case of damage. Installation and removal costs are very low: this can all be done manually without using expensive equipment.
Flexible cofferdam
The Buitink Flexible Water Dam can be used as a cofferdam to drain (parts of) lakes, rivers, streams and water reservoirs. (Partial) reclaiming may be necessary, for example, for inspection and maintenance work on (weir) dams, bridges or the river bottom.
The BFW has several key advantages over alternative methods.
- Very quick installation and commissioning
- no equipment needed
- modular and lightweight
- easy to move
- self-founding (the water keeps the BFW in place)
- Sustainable and environmentally friendly
- no equipment needed
- no noise during installation
- no consumption or risk of oil or fuel leakage during installation and removal
- no need to move land; habitat remains intact as is
- Cost-effective and economic solution
- low purchase costs
- easy to repair (also on site)
- can be reused hundreds of times over many years
- no maintenance
- very low installation costs (with only manpower in very little time)
- no moving or rotating parts susceptible to maintenance and/or faults
Creation of firewater reservoir
With a Flexible Water Dam from Buitink Technology, a huge extinguishing water reservoir can be created at lightning speed wherever there are natural water sources.
This can be in urban areas, in remote areas, in mountain ranges and even in forests; a small river, stream or brook is enough to create a water reservoir suitable for tapping fire-fighting water from and fighting a fire.
With respect to creating a firewater reservoir, our flexible water barrier has the following advantages:
- Very quick installation and commissioning
- no equipment needed
- modular and lightweight
- easy to move
- self-founding (the water keeps the BFW in place)
- Highly robust and resistent
- chemically resistant to many chemicals
- temperature range from -30 to + 70 degrees Celsius
- mechanically very strong, made with high safety factor
- Optimises the use of available resources
- due to the compactness of the Buitink Flexible Water Dam, it can always be easily deployed alongside all kinds of equipment and machinery
- faster action can be taken by using available water resources
- no large investments in water pipes, tanks/ reservoirs etc.
- compactness allows much more space for mobile emergency units and emergency equipment
- is an alternative to laying (underground) water pipes and taps for the fire brigade; it makes use of existing resources in the surrounding area
Collection of polluted water
The BFW is very suitable for collecting contaminated water and preventing environmental pollution. Most pollution - such as oil, most chemicals, foam and the like - floats on the water. The clean water can then flow through by opening the openings at the bottom of the dam.
The pollution remaining behind the dam can be removed or treated (chemically) and rendered harmless.
- Very quick installation and commissioning
- no equipment needed
- modular and lightweight
- easy to move
- self-founding (the water keeps the BFW in place)
- Very robust and resistant
- chemically resistant to many chemicals
- temperature range from -30 to + 70 degrees Celsius
- mechanically very strong, made with high safety factor
- can be laid out on almost any surface
- Protects the environment
- stops contaminated water with floating pollution
- suitable for all types of dirty-water streams: deep, shallow, wide or narrow, flat surface or bumpy
- prevents drinking water having to be used as extinguishing water
- is an alternative to laying (underground) water pipes and taps for the fire brigade; it makes use of existing resources in the surrounding area
